History of Catharine Ball House

Catharine Ball House was established from a generous legacy left by Catharine Ball in 1858 to create Almshouses for ‘poor, aged or infirm women of the Parish of Leckhampton.’ Since that time it has offered accommodation to those in need in the Parish of St Phillip and St James’ Church, with its vicar sitting as Chair of Trustees.

In August 2022, the Catharine Ball Almshouses merged with our charity Lilian Faithfull Care. It seems fitting that Lilian Faithfull Care, named after our own pioneering founder, now includes the legacy of another of Cheltenham’s forward thinking women, Catharine Ball.

The Local Community

The four bedroom apartments are situated in the heart of Leckhampton close to the Church of St Phillip and St James’.  The active church community is on the doorstep and it has long established links with many of the residents.

Bath road, with its wide range of shops and amenities is a short walk away along with bus links into the centre of Cheltenham.

The day care team at the Secret Garden Hub on Suffolk Square is close by to offer companionship and home cooked food.  In addition, Lilian Faithfull Care can offer easy access to respite care at any of the residential or nursing homes in Cheltenham should it be required.

The Apartments

The four one-bedroom apartments will be undergoing major refurbishments in the coming months.  If you would like to be kept informed please contact the team by email or phone 01242 500414.

As a Charity, our rents will be affordable and we will work with the Borough Council to help as many people as we can.  The flats will be modern, with free wifi and technology, enabling you to live in your own home safely and securely. Our expert maintenance team is also on hand locally to quickly resolve any issues.
