Infection prevention and control in our homes

Lilian Faithfull Care takes a rigorous approach to infection prevention and control which focuses on not only Covid-19 but also other transmissible illnesses (such as the Flu or the Norovirus). Our proactive measures are regularly reviewed and carefully balanced with residents’ overall mental well-being.

Our detailed policies are regularly updated and staff are given appropriate training and refreshers on best practice.  Constant vigilance through every aspect of the running of our homes is ensuring we remain a safe ‘home for life’.

Visiting Safely

We understand how important it is for our residents to stay connected with their loved ones. That’s why we’ve put in place careful measures to allow visiting while maintaining the highest standards of care home infection prevention and control. We want families to feel confident that they can visit their loved ones safely and securely.

  •  Visitors are welcome at any time, but it’s worth being mindful of mealtimes unless you are booked in to share a meal with your loved one.
  • Visitors are not required to wear masks or take lateral flow tests before entering our care homes, however masks will still be freely available to visitors should you wish to use one. Please just ask at reception when you arrive and they shall provide you with one. We do ask that if you feel unwell or are displaying common cold symptoms, please do not visit the care home.
  • If the care home has to ‘close’ due to an outbreak then PPE requirements and visiting arrangements will adapt to the circumstances. ‘Essential carers’ will continue to be able to visit in order to continue performing their job.  In addition during any outbreak, residents are free to make trips and visits outside of the home if they aren’t symptomatic.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are a critical part of our care home infection control strategy. We work closely with local GP surgeries to ensure that our residents and staff are up to date with all recommended vaccinations, including flu and COVID-19 vaccines. By maintaining high vaccination rates, we significantly reduce the risk of infections spreading within our care homes, providing an additional layer of protection for our community.

Cleaning and Cleanliness

The Housekeeping teams have a rigorous regime of cleaning and we take pride in the fresh and clean environments in our care homes and hubs. Hand sanitiser machines are at key locations throughout the homes, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment throughout the home, ensuring that all areas are safe for residents, staff and visitors alike.

In The Event Of An Outbreak

The Health Protection Agency legislates that we close our doors whenever two infectious cases in a home are reported (this also includes Norovirus, Flu and any other chest infection) however ‘essential carers’ are still allowed to visit as they will need to continue to take care of the residents.  We follow IPC (infection prevention control) regulations when caring for our residents under these circumstances. Our staff are trained to handle such situations with efficiency and care, ensuring that any potential outbreak is managed swiftly and effectively.
