‘Genie’ Robot Trial at Royal Court features on ITV West Country News

It was fantastic to see ITV West Country News feature our Royal Court care home in Cheltenham and its participation in the trial of the ‘Genie’ Robot.

GenieConnect® is the brainchild of Rob Parkes and Tim Morgan – successful business owners, entrepreneurs and engineers with 50 years of experience between them. Both Rob and Tim have elderly parents who’ve found themselves living alone after losing their respective partners. Having seen first-hand how quickly a full and happy life can become lonely, Rob and Tim decided to use their innovation, skills and experience to create a solution – and GenieConnect® was born. www.genieconnect.co.uk/our-story

It has a wide range of functions but of the key ones in the current situation is its ability to keep connected with family, though its easy video calls.  Our thanks go to Molly, her daughter Suzanne and Home Manager Lesley who were all featured (with internal footage taken by a member of staff).

The project is being supported by Professor Ray Jones mof Plymouth University and a team at the University of Plymouth who are looking how technology can help elderly people.

We look forward to seeing how this develops – it’s just one of the ways we are harnessing technology in our homes to support the care we offer.
