Astell House delighted to receive post from Her Majesty The Queen!

Our Astell House care home are delighted to receive post from Her Majesty The Queen! Yesterday, the day of what would have been Prince Philip’s 100th birthday, came a letter and card of thanks from Her Majesty. The letter was a thank you to members of Astell’s resident poetry group who wrote a beautiful poem in tribute to The Duke of Edinburgh.

Take a look through the pictures which includes the fabulous poem. The tribute came about a couple of months ago when Astell’s residents’ poetry group were preparing to write a poem for Prince Philip’s 100th birthday. When Prince Philip sadly passed away, they were passionate about writing a poem as a tribute instead.

The resident poetry group, who meet every Thursday, gathered together and spoke about all the wonderful things Prince Philip did, what he meant to them and how he would be remembered. Evelyn, who leads the poetry group, captured everything and then created this heart felt poem as a tribute.

Lucy Martin, our Physio Associate and who supports the group, kindly wrote to Her Majesty on the residents behalf, sending the poem and their condolences.

Yesterday was a very proud day for Carole and her residents and team at Astell. The letter, card and poem will now be framed and displayed for all to see.

Carole, our Manager of Astell House is also creating a wonderful memorial garden which will include the new RHS Rose and Clematis created in the Duke of Edinburgh’s name.

We look forward to seeing the garden when it’s finished.
