Annual Review

Lilian Faithfull Care is a registered charity. Importantly, this means any financial surplus we make is reinvested for the benefit of our residents.

We don’t have shareholders and don’t pay out dividends to outside stakeholders.  Everything we do as an organisation must fall within our charitable objects.

We remain true to our founder Lilian Faithfull’s principles of the charity; a desire to improve the lives of others through care and dedication.

As a charity, you can trust we are in care for the right reasons – not for profit. With 96p in every £1 spent towards the day to day care of our residents – and all that entails. We financially support as many older people as we are able by subsidising fees to the amount of £1.55 million. Through this subsidy and our ‘home for life’ pledge, we will never ask a resident to leave the group for financial reasons.

Our financial year is changing so the end of the financial year will be in March 2024, a new review will be prepared after that.

As a charity, Lilian Faithfull Care is governed by an experienced board of trustees. This volunteer team, give their time freely and are reimbursed reasonable expenses.  All experts in their field, they meet regularly with our executive team to set the strategic direction and oversee the work of the charity.  The Trustees work as a Board and on specific Committees; the Finance & Risk, Care, People & Governance and the Estates Committee.


Lilian Faithfull Care is committed to safeguarding our residents with whom our staff, or anyone acting on our behalf, come into contact with. The Charity has a robust and routinely updated Safeguarding Policy. All the Charity’s staff are familiar with the policy and receive routine training on their responsibilities under it. The Safeguarding Policy is reviewed annually by the Care Committee and Board of Trustees.

Risk Management

Each Trustee Committee is assigned certain risks from the Charity’s Risk Register which are reviewed, documented and tested during the year. Internal control risks are minimised by the implementation of procedures for authorisation of all transactions and projects. Procedures are in place to ensure compliance with health and safety of staff, volunteers, residents and visitors. The continuing implementation of the Care Quality Commission and Local Authority Standards ensure a consistent quality of delivery for all operational aspects of the Charity. These procedures are periodically reviewed to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of the Charity.


The Charity reviews the Pay & Remuneration Policy and Gender Pay Gap Report annually. Lilian Faithfull Care aims to apply a consistent and fair approach to reward, in line with the following principles; We will aim for consistency and fairness in the processes we use to manage reward, we will ensure that our reward processes and policies are transparent and accessible to all employees, we will be mindful of the market/benchmarking in making decisions about pay and benefits, we will be clear about how we recognise and reward performance, whether at Lilian Faithfull Care, team or individual level and we will retain a core set of benefits for all employees.
