13 May Mrs Mary Wixey
As the summer of Olympics closes we celebrate the Remarkable Life of Mary Wixey who lives in our newest Home, Royal Court in Cheltenham.
Aged 85, competing in the European and World Vet Championships. When Mary retired from teaching she took up a second career competing in athletics around the world. In 1996, aged 74 she could jump further in both the long jump and the triple hump than anyone in the world of her age.
Aged 91, carrying the Olympic torch in Cheltenham – her proudest moment. She had just returned from World Masters Athletics Championships having won 5 silver medals for 60m spring, discus, shot put, javelin and long jump.
We were privileged this inspiring lady livied with us at Royal Court in Cheltenham.
